Detective Eric Kincaid arrives at the apartment the forensic team traces for fingerprints. They run all of the analysis off at the forensic laboratory at the third Precinct and District at Toronto Police Department. Detective Eric Kincaid and his team member Detective Dawson Reed not only interviewed neighbors but also looked at CCTV surveillance footage to really get an idea of what happened to Sumaya. She was misgendered in the media and even by Detectives Kincaid and Reed. But they did ask those questions. Followed up with family as the death notification was made to those like Mocha and for those who weren't immediate loved ones like Gina Day council members, they found out through social media it was a ripple effect and the city of Toronto was trampling for justice for Sumaya Del Mar. Say her name, solve this case. And that's exactly what Detectives Eric and Dawson Reed were trying to do in the initial phases of the hateful homicide on February 22nd of 2015. From that Monday, going into that, from that Sunday, my audience, excuse me, going into that Monday, February 23rd of 2015, the investigation was full swing ahead, going around, around and around. And within time there were some potential suspects, persons of interest in the case one was a consistent trick of Samaya by the name of Jameson Abbott, 22 year old, black cisgendered male. Jameson and Samiyah hit it off. He was infatuated. He wanted her and only her and he wanted her to only want him. But the classic beauty refused to settle. And certainly with all of the projects and incredible accomplishments she had not only ahead of her, but coming ahead, Jameson just wasn't going to cut it. But she did what she needed to do, told him that it was only casual transactional. But that wasn't enough for Jameson. After the death, notifications is made to Samaya's parents and other close loved ones. Detective Kincaid and Detective Reed are going through CCTV footage as well as Samiya Del Mar cell phone and they discover that Jameson had been calling Samiyah all the way from Saturday, February 21st up until the early morning hours of February 22nd. Samiyah did pick up the phone and spoke to Jameson for a little over three minutes. And Detectives Kincaid and Reed wanted to know what was so urgent and what was the conversation about. Jamison need to tell my audience of he was getting to know Samaya. He wanted to be with her, he wanted to help her. But she didn't seem to take him serious serious and all he wanted to do was fight for her. This is the interview that he gives that's transcribed. Detective and Kaden Reed make notes but continue down the list. There was also another girl in the community who envied, had a little jealousy towards Samaya because she was found strangled and beaten. And we still do not have a definitive suspect and person convicted for the hateful homicide of Samaya. We do not know if Samaya's perpetrator is that of the massive or feminine experience or both, as we're still going to go through the case and reveal those forensic results such as fingerprints and any other DNA later on. But at this moment it is important for us to remember that Samaya the beautiful as outgoing, outspoken, hairstylist, cosmetologist, activist. And in February 2015 she was preparing for so much her New job, turning 27, celebrating T Dub 2015 being a confused change in the community and getting out of survivor sex work and all that was snuffed out. Could it be because Zamiyah had a sense of competition, a rivalry between her and another go. Samiyah turned heads and also made the world turn in a better place as well as doing what she needs to do in turn. No Trita. And that bothered some of the girls in the community. One in particular, Jasmine Meadows Incredible, beautiful trans woman. She wanted Samiya spot the ultimate superstar. The two had a beef just a couple of weeks before Samiya's body was found slumped and slain in her Toronto apartment. Samaya and Jasmine argued, slaps were heard and witnessed. Jasmine held Samaya. Watch your back, you don't know who you're dealing with. Did Samaya ultimately find out who she was dealing with with Jasmine? So we have Jameson Abbott, a 22 year old cisgender black male who is obsessed and in love with and want her to be with him. But Samaya is not ready. And then we have Jasmine Meadows, 27 year old black trans female in the Toronto area. And it said that they both sometimes do pieces for the same lover, including Jamison. Was there a conspiracy between Jamison and Jasmine? Detectives Kincaid and Reed was interviewing them separately as phone calls was made. Search warrants were being issued to the homes and for phone records of Jasmine Meadows and Jamison Abbott. Friends like Mocha Dawkins and Tanisha Perdue, they were being interviewed. Even Councilwoman Gina Day was interviewed by detectives Reed and Kincaid on who would want to commit a hateful homicide. The CCTV footage was being reviewed and it does show a cloaked figure going into the apartment of Samiya Delmar, the beautiful 26 year old trans Somalian female of Toronto, Canada, found at 7:30am Toronto Standard Time. Murdered, strangled, beaten and GRU. The case is under investigation. Detectives Reid and Kincaid are going through forensic evidence. Zamiyah's body is now going through autopsy at the forensic laboratory as well as fingerprints been analysed and analyzed in another room. The autopsy is revealed going into the late evening of Monday February 23, 2015 and it reveals that Samaya has been met with neck compressions by the knee. As well as restraint with hands. The forensic blab reveals that the fingerprints were used with gloves. So the hand markings were used with gloves. But the knee compressions on Samaya's neck did have epithelial cells that did potentially yield a DNA. Additional forensic testing would have to be. And as that forensic testing is being conducted, my audience interviews are being had with friends like Mocha Dawkins, Tanisha Padu, persons of interest, Jasmine Meadows and Jameson Abbott, as well as one more person of interest, an ex boyfriend of Sumaya. His ex boyfriend is 33 year old black cisgendered male, Matthew Rollins, Matthew Walland. My audience captivated Samaya. The two had a love story like no other. They live. They laugh. The couple met back in 2007, nine years before the hateful homicide of Samaya, she was 19, newly into her journey and he was 25. The two met while Samiyah was doing survivor sex work to get back on her feet. Matthew Rollins and Samaya began an official dating relationship from 2007 to 2012. And they had like any couple, their aunts and their aunts and their ups and their downs. But it was Matt and Sumaya and so much to the point where they got engaged. But Matt, who was also known as a playboy, cheated and broke Samaya's heart. So in the summer of two in 2012, Samaya ended a relationship with Matthew, refusing his proposal even though he said he wanted to do better and he would change and wanted to be with her and love her. The then 24 year old said no, she will not settle, she will not allow herself to be treated this way. Cheated on. And though the relationship was never physically abusive, it was emotional and he was part of helping her in her gender journey in his own way and being that sense of support after her parents eradicated her from the home. He was part of her support system and her survival mechanism. But that wasn't enough because when he betrayed her trust by cheating on her not once, not twice, but three times over a span of five years, enough was enough. Kumaya went back to what she did best. She focused on herself, got back into survivor sex work, continued her gender journey medically and socially, got into her own apartment and inspired others like Mocha Dawkins. She did so much for others. So Matthew, my audience, was brought in for questioning as he was also one of the last phone calls made on that Friday, that Saturday, February 21st of 2015. The two had kept in touch on and off so far. He knows that love, that kind of things with you have that push and pull. And deep down Matthew always stated that he hoped the two would get back together, get married and they would build. And In February of 2015, the two had actually spent Valentine's Day together. Wasn't too intimate of nature, but just one of an opportunity to repair and restore and renew, possibly see where it could go. But at the same time he was aware of Jameson, who was always lurking and it even confronted Matthew once and was also aware of Sumaya's complicated, unofficial but official rivalry with Jasmine. Just wasn't enough. And ultimately Detective Reed and Kincaid was interviewing multiple people, not even taking a break, but wanting to get the information needed. The CCTV footage did reveal a punk speaker going into Samaya's apartment around 2:30am, Toronto Standard Time on that Sunday, February 22, 2015. Just about five hours before Samaya's body was found. The autopsy revealed that Samaya had been dead up to 10 hours as lividity and rigor mortis was slowing starting to set in. But it could have been at least as five. Detective Reed did go back a little further and did see that the cloaked figure came in a few hours before. So that initial footage was them returning to the scene of the crime. To do what? To double check and make sure Samayya was dead. They were also trying to do additional forensic analysis to see how tall the cloak figure was. Wouldn't match the height of one of the three persons of interest. Detective Kincaid was also interviewing Mocha Dawkins, Tanisha Perdue and other loved ones to see if there was any other persons of interest. And the family shared that those were the main three that they could think of. The autopsy was conducted by Dr. Anna Emerson. Dr. Emerson did conclude that it was violent struggle on the body. Suspicious injuries. But was the the injuries that caused the hateful homicide of Samaya. So it was hard for them to list homicide as a manner of death. So it's listed as unknown. And once Dr. Emerson shares this with detectives Kincaid and Reed, the investigation does a sort of twist and turn, a pivot. Was Samiyah in a fight? A struggle with someone she was two weeks earlier? Allegedly. Could those be some remaining injuries? There was even suggestions up because it was sex work. Was it some kind of roughhousing? So there in the sense of taking the case seriously. From Those first initial 72 hours after getting Dr. Emerson's report, there was a level of like not taking the case as serious. Detectives Kincaid and Reed did follow up with the alibis of Jameson Abbott, Jasmine Meadows and Matthew Rollins. And according to both detectives Reid and Kincaid, they were all nowhere near the area of the time of the hateful homicide, which looks like it was committed on that Saturday, February 21, around 10:30pm According to that decision, suspicious figure followed back with a check in. What was that? Someone who was just visiting came across the body and left. This was something that was posed by the detectives at the third District. With Samaya's autopsy being listed as undetermined, her remains were then given to her family. And her family did what they did with her remains. And those who loved her as Samaya and supported her, like Mocha and others, they assured that she had a beautiful train all the way to the point that Samaya would even have a scholarship in her name from university. But I'm not the only investigator who really took hold of this case. J. Nichols with Uncertain Shadows pays tribute homage in their podcast of Ontario's code cases with the life, death and legacy of Sumaya del Mar.
